Chris Becenti brought years of hands-on experience to IWP's Construction Program when he enrolled in September 2024. After graduating from Gallup High School, Chris had built a solid work history as a pipe fitter, material mover, and paper machine operator in Albuquerque. But after seven years moving through different fields in the workforce, he wanted more from his career.
During his 12 weeks with IWP, Chris mastered new skills that built on his existing foundation - earning his OSHA 10 certification, learning heavy equipment operation, developing carpentry techniques, and expanding his welding abilities. His dedication and work ethic paid off.
When Dan McConnel, owner of Gallup Portable Storage and Transport LLC, was looking to expand his team, IWP connected him with Chris. Dan had already hired one IWP graduate and knew the quality of training the program provides. Chris did not disappoint.
"Your training program is a much needed program in our community," Dan explains. "This will benefit our locals by training people and helping them find a company that is a good fit for them. The personal input and recommendations I received are exactly what I needed for my employee search."
Chris's story shows what happens when determination meets opportunity. His years of experience, combined with the focused training and connections IWP provides, opened the door to a new career path with growth potential.
Today, Chris is putting his skills to work at Gallup Portable Storage and Transport, contributing to the local economy while building a sustainable future. For others in the Gallup community considering a career change, Chris proves that it's never too late to invest in new skills and create new opportunities.
