We train, you hire, the state of NM pays*. IWP is an employer-led program run by the Southwest Indian Foundation to provide more career opportunities to the under-employed in the Gallup Area, and to promote local businesses by providing them with a pipeline of high quality entry-level candidates for the construction and automotive industries.
*Companies may be eligible for up to 75% wage reimbursement for up to 6 months. We work with you to determine eligibility.



For 12-weeks, our students work through a program centered around the NCCER Core curriculum, gaining exposure and training in a wide range of technical construction skills, and non-technical employmement skills critical for any line of work.

Two weeks of the program is devoted to exposing students to the basics of welding:

Over 6-weeks, our students work through a program geared towards ASE certifications, while also learning non-technical employment skills critical for any line of work.
They receive hands-on training in the following technical skills:
Lube tech
Students learn the skills needed for performing oil changes, lubrication services, and basic vehicle maintenance.

Tire Tech
Training on tire and wheel services - including installation, rotation, balancing, and alignment - is also provided.

We offer recommendation letters and job placement support to graduates who show strong work ethic, punctuality, and ambition.
We help you register for On-the-Job training through New Mexico Workforce Solutions in order to receive 75% reimbursement on wages for the first 6 months of work.
All graduates must pass a drug test for legally-prohibited narcotics before being admitted to the program.

How many programs
do you run each year?
We currently hold three classes a year for the construction program, and three to four classes a year for the automotive program. We hope to expand in future years to feature more cohorts and different trades training.
When are the programs?

How long is each
program?
The construction program lasts 12-weeks, and the automotive program lasts 6 weeks.
How many people are
in each class?
10-15 for the construction program, and 8 for the automotive program.
Who can join?
Anyone in the Gallup, NM area.
This includes all of McKinley County, the Four Corners region counties, the Navajo Nation, the Hopi Nation, the Pueblo of Zuni, the Pueblo of Acoma, and the Pueblo of Laguna.
Is the program free?
Almost all applicants will be eligible for free access to the program through funding from the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA).
Those who are not eligible for free access can pay $12,500 to join the Construction program, and $8,500 to join the Automotive program.
Where do the classes
take place?
Classroom instruction and job-site training takes place at the SWIF warehouse in Gallup, and on SWIF construction sites.
